Baker’s cyst can be treated either conservatively or surgically. Conservative treatment includes anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen, diclofenac) and a puncture of the cyst. In surgical treatment, the entire cyst is usually exposed via a fairly large incision in the hollow of the knee and its root (canal into the knee joint) is cut off and then removed. Due to the radical nature of the procedure, the usual complications of surgical procedures in sensitive regions (popliteal fossa) must be expected after the operation.
Catheter-assisted bipolar thermal ablation (RFITT) of the Baker cyst is a procedure for endocystic minimally invasive thermal ablation of knee joint cysts that is in clinical use in only a few centers worldwide. It was introduced into everyday clinical practice by SAPHENION in 2009.

Saphenion®: Protokoll Reisethrombose

Is the number of travel thromboses increasing? From our experience at the Vascular and Vein Center in Rostock, a definite YES!
And this number is likely to rise again this summer of 2025 – we all know that the Covid-19 virus, as well as the vaccinations, also in influenza had a very high thrombogenicity, i.e. there is currently an additional significantly increased risk of thrombosis!

Saphenion®: Komplikationen beim Venenkleber Saphenion®: complications of sealing veins

The results from some actually international studies have demonstrated the safety of Radio wave and Vein glue closure techniques for CVI, with lower thrombotic rates than previously reported. Further work might help to identify how these results can be achieved across all venous ablative techniques for CVI, even for patient populations with advanced venous disease and possibly a greater-than-average risk of thrombotic – events.

Saphenion®: Is aspirin useful for preventing venous thrombosis? Is aspirin (ASA) the drug of choice for preventing venous thrombosis or arterial occlusion? The importance of aspirin for venous thrombosis prophylaxis has been the subject of intense debate for 40 years. It is widely recommended in the USA and is freely available in supermarkets. In European countries, aspirin is no longer considered a significant medication for thrombosis prophylaxis.

The fate of the saphenous vein – is a historical view on the radical therapy of varices, in a keynote lecture at the Northern European Endovenous Forum in Warnemünde, PD Dr. Med Lahl, and Dr. Med. Ulf Th. Zierau has dealt with this topic more intensively.

Saphenion®: Vacuum compression after varicose vein treatment – our experience with vein glue and microfoam
We started using this new therapeutic procedure 10 years ago in our Rostock practice. To date, we have treated 1439 patients with postoperative compression massage and, as of 2020, 715 patients with vacuum compression after gluing the trunk varicose veins and after microfoam therapy during postoperative follow-up care. We were very surprised by the success of the therapy!
