Saphenion® – vein glue for the therapy of varicose vein thrombosis? The thrombosis in the area of the superficial truncal veins and cutaneous veins (superficial venous thrombosis – OVT; thrombophlebitis) is not a rare complication; it requires drug or surgical therapy if the thrombosis grows in the direction of deep veins. This situation is particularly striking in the case of thromboses of the great saphenous vein GSV and small saphenous vein SSV as well as other saphenous veins and leads to deep vein thrombosis in around 20% of cases.

In Germany, around 800,000 leg vein thromboses occur every year (excluding Covid-19 infections and vaccinations). In 25 – 50% of affected patients, pulmonary embolisms occur as a result. Almost 25% of these are fatal. In only 11% of fatal pulmonary embolisms was the cause – deep vein thrombosis – diagnosed during pre-diagnostics! Only 17% of the affected patients were primarily described as having a leg vein thrombosis; in 25% of cases, a deep vein thrombosis was only recognized after the pulmonary embolism. Incidentally, this phenomenon also occurs very frequently at present – Covid-19 patients and also those who have been vaccinated twice suffer thromboses with subsequent pulmonary embolism!

Saphenion®: Long Covid an Venenwänden

Saphenion®: Long Covid on leg vessel walls – does this complication, which is currently more common in practice, really exist? The suspicion is obvious – because in the last 51 months (5/22 – 8/26) we have seen this complication in several cases as part of our corona anamnesis, which we also always carried out as part of the patient consultations.

Saphenion®: Varicose vein therapy after Covid-19 infection/vaccination – What are our current experiences? In September 2021, we announced in news and videos about our experiences with varicose vein therapy with VenaSeal® vein glue and microfoam after the 2nd Covid-19 vaccination. The reason was the increased side effects that we had to see from August 2021 (after the summer vacation) in the course of the therapy. It must be taken into account here that the majority of our patients had received a second Biontec or Moderna vaccination by mid-July.

Saphenion®: Varicose veins and thrombosis – both diseases are closely linked. The risk of varicose vein patients suffering a superficial or deep vein thrombosis increases exponentially by a factor of 2-4. In women on anticonceptive hormone therapy, the risk increases by a factor of 8.
