Saphenion®: Risk of thrombosis when driving a car or motorcycle – Venous thromboembolism (leg vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism) is a major therapeutic problem in healthcare. It is estimated that there are 400 cases per 100,000 people (0.4% of the total population), with possible complications ranging from severe (thrombosis of the leg/pelvic veins resulting in post-thrombotic syndrome) to life-threatening (pulmonary embolism resulting in death). Following the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a decline in air passenger numbers. Travel by private car, motorcycle, or bus has become more common.

Saphenion®: Compression massage for leg artery occlusion – this additional physical therapy for arterial occlusive disease of the leg arteries (PAD) is not yet standard. Scientific reports on the use of pneumatic compression therapy for diabetic and / or smoker’s leg have only been available for about 15 years. And we have to admit that when we first started out in vascular surgery, compression therapy for patients with leg artery disease was a No Go!

Postoperative compression therapy is recommended in numerous guidelines issued by international professional associations. It serves to relieve pain, reduce post-procedural swelling and edema formation, and compress bruises and wound cavities (after stripping surgery). Overall, it is a measure that aims to ensure a recovery phase (convalescence) with fewer complications for the patient.

The tendency to varicose veins is already innate in over 90% of our patients. So it is not the defective venous valve that turns the vein into a varicose vein, it is the defective vein wall that leads to the expansion of the cutaneous veins and thus sooner or later to the defective venous valve and thus to the development of the varicose veins. Young people are also affected to some extent.

Saphenion®: Turning Time at Charité – Elite exchange

Saphenion®: Turning Time at Charitè – The Berlin Charité, Germany’s well-known hospital, was at the same time a center of research, teaching, and further education. It was part of the university, which was given the name Humboldt in GDR times. After the end of the GDR a considerable exchange of management personnel took place in the Charité, the media supplied the accompanying music with Stasi hysteria and scandal stories. The Charité, also in GDR times nationally and internationally a well-known university hospital, now seemed to have been a branch of the MfS and the Politbureau in public perception.
